My Travel Photography Kit (Update)

I made the switch from Canon to Fuji!

I was quite happy with my Canon 6D MKII and the lenses I was using in terms of image quality. However, there was one main issue with that - it was too heavy! When combined with my main travel lens (EF24-105mm), this was very bulky and weighted more than 1.5kg! As a result, I realised that I didn’t use the camera as often as I wanted.

After quite a lot of research, I decided to switch to Fuji (X-T5)and return to an APS-C format. Combined with a 16-55mm lens, the kit now weights less than 1kg and it’s so compact! In terms of image quality I am very excited so far and looking forward to getting some great shots!

Camera

Fujifilm X-T5

Pros:

  1. Very light and compact compared to my previous full frame DLSR

  2. Really love the physical buttons for adjusting the settings

  3. 40.2MP APS-C sensor

  4. Excellent battery life for a mirrorless camera

  5. Great Fujifilm simulations if you want to share photos without editing

Cons:

  1. Hand grip is a bit shallow for me (yet an L-shape grip fixes this issue)

  2. Not a full frame sensor, so this might affect low-light shooting (will see how this affects my photography style)

Lenses

Fujifilm XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II Lens

This is the only lens I use (so far).

Pros:

  1. Covers wide to short telephoto (full frame equivalent to 24-82.5mm)

  2. Very sharp

  3. Very light

  4. One-lens solution when travelling

Cons:

  • No Image Stabilisation (but no issues so far)
